The Dovbush Rocks: Lviv’s climbing paradise

The most iconic feature – Dovbush Rocks (locally named after a Carpathian outlaw, though historically unrelated) – are massive sandstone monoliths up to 12 meters high, covered with ancient lichens and twisted pines. They formed during the Neogene period, over 20 million years ago. Today, they host climbing routes from 5a to 7c (French scale). Nearby, the Boulder Trail displays glacial erratics carried from Scandinavia during the Dnipro glaciation.

Springs and holy wells

During WWI, the Austrian army dug trenches here – some are still visible in the eastern part. You’ll also find brick gunpowder cellars, now nicknamed “secret bunkers” by local explorers.
